The discovery of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's diaries in 2004 was an undeniably significant occurrence. His daughter, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, carefully transcribed and then translated Bengali into English from the notebooks, which were by then fragile and discolored. They begin with Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's recollections of his days as a student activist in the run-up to the movement for Pakistan in the early 1940s, and are written during his sojourns in jail as a state prisoner between 1967 and 1969.
